People rushing for CCTVs, Video door-phones post Braid-chopping incidents

As the incidents of braid-cutting across Kashmir have caused fear among people, the demand for security systems such as CCTV cameras and video door phones has grown manifold.
In order to create awareness among people about usage of security devices, a leading Srinagar-based security solutions company along with three outside companies would be soon holding interactive programmes in various areas, said Danish Bashir, managing director Chinar Security Systems.
“The interactive sessions will be first held in Srinagar next week in public places such as parks. Leading security solutions companies Bosch, Honeywell and Hikvision are being roped-in to be a part of this initiative,” Bashir said. Bashir said the “Social Awareness Programme” will be helpful in making people understand the usage of devices such as Video Door Phones (VDPs) or gate automation which helps people monitor the people’s arrivals to their homes.
“The home automation system is quite in demand and we are making about half a dozen installations every day now-a-days. During last three weeks ever since the braid cutting scare has started we have made 40 installations,” Bashir said.
He said there has been almost 40 per cent increase in business of security systems, adding the demand for these devices from Srinagar and other districts is alike.
“Our company will hold one week awareness programme in Srinagar followed by one week each in North and South Kashmir. The presence of these reputed companies will help to assure prospective customers about after-sales service of these security solutions, which customers are most concerned about.”
Several other business houses dealing with sales of security systems also said that demand for these devices has grown.
Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, proprietor of Cyber City, which sells surveillance and IT products, said an increased number of people are making phone calls every day to check availability and cost of these products.
“Earlier such products used to be installed mostly at commercial establishments but now people are asking for installations at their homes as well. Enough stocks are available with us and in view of the demand we have asked for more stocks from outside,” Bhat said.
More than 100 incidents of braid-cutting have been reported from Kashmir so far and no one has been arrested till date, even as the police have sought cooperation of people and victims to crack the case.
Yaseer Kazmi, CEO Myasa Network Solutions, says prior to the braid cutting threat his company used to supply products to only government departments but now products are being provided to home users also.
“In last three weeks we are developing products which people can install at homes. Our security solutions offer a feature that records footage on a storage device and this footage last from one month to one year depending on capacity of storage device,” Kazmi said.
Kazmi said his company is offering a mobile app by which one can access the video footage from his home live on phone or a laptop from anywhere in the world.
